The Riyadh Triathletes 14th event of the season was Biathlon No. 7, which entailed a 700m swim followed by a 6.4km run.
Calm yet hot conditions at the Salwa Garden Village Compound saw an excellent venue with an indoor 25m pool and flat run course. The holiday season saw a respectable but reduced field of 50 athletes taking part which included 10 junior participants completing various distances up to the full event.
New club member Ken Heney took overall victory with an impressive winning time, overtaking Jabier Fernandez who took the fastest swim honors. First Male Vet was Alistair McDermott showing you can enjoy life and still perform. First Male Master was Eduardo Lando, and first Male Senior Paul McParland. Female honors went to Marie Kalmanova, Female Vet to Emma Gillespie and Female Master with a very impressive time was Annie Wild. Winning Junior was Paul McParland Jr.
A number of newcomers in the club joined the competition. The club reminded any potential participants that you do not have to be a highly tuned athlete to take part in events. If the main distance is too much a lesser distance or single activity can be undertaken. Up next is a full triathlon event (swim 1200m, bike 32km, Run 8kmkm).
Riyadh Triathletes would like to thank Alistair McDermott and BAE Systems for allowing use of their home location for the event. Thanks also to the main sponsors Airbus Defense and Space and Carrefour @5 Le Mall for their support this season.
